What a great feeling! I can now say that I’ve lost 25 pounds! A lot has changed since I began and there have definitely been some ups and downs.
I went off the rails for the month of March. Some personal and family issues and getting sick were my lame excuses! When I went to the doctor I was surprised to find that I had only gained back five pounds (with shoes and jacket on!). That gave me the motivation to keep going!
What’s Not Working
The “take a break” mentality. Once or twice a week I get the feeling that I deserve a really big cheat meal, it wouldn’t be so bad if I just did it once, everybody does it, when am I going to be able to finally enjoy my life… and I need to shut that down! We all know that one really big cheat meal can turn into a whole week. Or in my case, month! I need to accept that bingeing on food is not enjoying life! In fact, it’s how I’ve gotten to this point where I’m not fully enjoying my life.
Eating very low fat. I had some side effects from eating very low fat, one of which was really bad dry skin this winter! Thankfully the reoccurrence of gallstones seems to have dissolved while I was eating low fat. Now I’m still being careful because I know this is a lifelong health issue for me. But I’m taking a more relaxed stance!
Moderation. I’ve always said that I’m an all-or-nothing person, and used that as an excuse for why I either need to do a very strict diet, or just not care at all! Thankfully I am starting to break down this belief about myself. And building in some slightly indulgent meals has really helped me stay on track!
Tracking. Can you guess what caused me to lose my Lose It momentum in March? That’s right, I stopped tracking for one day. Which turned into two days, which turned into an embarrassingly long time of ignoring those reminders to track my meals! Ugh. Now I’m back in the habit of pre-tracking my meals every morning! I would suggest everyone write down what they eat – it’s the biggest reason why I’ve lost 25 pounds and counting!
If you are have a lot of weight to lose and are overwhelmed, here’s some motivation!
- Starting at about 15 lbs lost, my undies got very loose! I need to size down!
- My belly is noticeably shrinking
- My shoulders look a little bit sharper
- Eating healthier has stopped me from waking up swollen and bloated from too much salt
- I can get my wedding rings on and off easily
- Walking for exercise has made it easier to stand for longer periods of time without my feet and knees hurting
- My ankles and feet look more toned
- I get full from smaller servings
I did not expect all these benefits so quickly after only having lost 25 pounds. The thought of having more than 100 lbs total to lose is so overwhelming and paralyzing. But these little successes, and stopping to celebrate them, are keeping me going strong!
