How to Start a Blog, and the Reasons I Decided to Become a Blogger

Starting a blog was a lot harder than I thought it would be! But the payoff has already been amazing. I’m so proud that I’m already making money and booking clients after less than six months blogging. So why did I start a blog? And how did I sort through so much information to get a website up and running? Read on for an honest look at being a mommy blogger!
Considering I had Emma when I was 19 and have stayed home ever since, I don’t have a lot of work experience! I know that I have skills to share… But someone looking at my resume might not know that. Blogging allows me to share what I know with anyone who can find it.
Real Life Issues
Let’s be honest, most bloggers hope to make at least a little money! It’s a dream of mine to stay home for Emma for as long as possible. Making money from home, especially doing something I love, would take the pressure off my husband and let me fulfill that dream.
My Love of Teaching Women
Through leading a small group, I learned that leading and guiding women is something I’m called to do! I love to share what I’ve learned and give helpful tips. I also believe that God has given me this life so that I can guide other women through their lives, in the same way my mentors and friends have for me! And those friends encouraged me to start a blog, before I was sure of it myself.
How I Started My Blog
If you want to start a blog, the best advice I can give you is to do a lot of research! And don’t give up. It took me a few months to make my first dollar, but I didn’t give up. Thus far there have been a few major hiccups, like my Pinterest account getting shut down and some website issues. Still, don’t give up! You will learn from the mistakes you make, and if you stick with it, you’ll start to see some success. There are some of the tools I’ve used that have worked in my blogging journey!
Siteground & WordPress
I chose Siteground as my web host because it got great reviews. As a mom who knew absolutely nothing about websites, their great customer service has saved my butt more than once! I also chose WordPress because it’s arguably the most secure and customizable website platform out there. I love that for whatever I need, I can find a plugin for it.
Pinterest & Tailwind
Pinterest provides over 90% of my website traffic! So creating Pins for every post is absolutely worth the time. For Mothers’ Day, my husband kindly gifted me a year’s subscription to Tailwind, which is a Pinterest scheduler. Using Tailwind exploded my traffic nearly ten times the first day! And it went up every day, until my Pinterest account got shut down. But I’m persistent, and my second account is quickly growing!
What do I have to offer?
Beginning bloggers often find themselves stuck on this question. What do I even have to say? Who am I writing for, and what are they going to find when they get to my site? I definitely struggled, and sometimes continue to struggle, with these questions. My advice is to keep going! Even if you don’t have a content plan, or even a plan for how you want to make money, just get started and figure it out as you go. You’ll soon realize what you like and what you don’t. So far, this what I’ve got going on my website.
I have one email course available, called Overwhelm Overhaul. I actually created this course before I even started my blog! It takes stressed out moms through calming and self-improvement exercises to help them get that overwhelmed feeling out of their lives! These are strategies I’ve learned from being a mom myself, and having struggled with anxiety and depression throughout my teen years.
My Coaching Package
I offer coaching to women who are ready to improve their health, take control of their time, and finally change their lives! I’m a mom who’s on a journey to lose weight and love myself more. And I run a business from home while still having time to spend with my family! I love guiding and supporting other women as they work on their lives, too!
You might notice on most of my posts some links to Amazon and Target. I earn a small percentage of the sale as a commission when someone purchases through my links. And the best part is it doesn’t cost the reader a single cent more! I only link to items that I love and recommend whole-heartedly.
I’m loving being a blogger and life coach! It’s given me so much purpose and focus in my everyday life. If you’re ready to start your own blog, the first step is to get your hosting package from Siteground.
Did you start a blog already, or are you thinking of starting one? Tell me about it in the comments!
